What is the different btw pedigree dog & show dog?
A pedigree dog is nothing more then a pure bred dog that is registered and has papers to prove it. Of course, papers can be faked, and some registries just promote bad breeding.
I was on craigslist tonight, and someone's pit bull died, so they were trying to sell the registration papers to someone else.
A show dog is a purebred dog that is registered and has papers, but these dogs come from excellent breeding, and meet the breed standard. They compete in other shows against other dogs that also meet the breed standard, and exhibit the best traits the breed has to offer.
Every puppy a show dog has will be a registered dog. But only 1 or 2 will be show quality like their parents.

All purebred pups have "papers" this simply just a documented family tree.. There are diffrences in the quality of these dog.. and also some registries.. there are alot that will offer "paperwork" on anything for a fee..
the quality of a dog is not baised on the papers alone.. but the quality of dogs used in their breeding program.. and the effort of a breeder to be ethical and have a good reputation and hard work..
Some breeders are frankly better than others.. their dogs are better quality not only in looks and temperment.. but health concerns.. good breeders evaluate their dogs.. do health clearances and only breed the best to the best…yes they show compete and title their dogs.. this is important even if you are looking for "just a pet" because that breeder has put a heck of a lot more work and care into their litters and their "pet" puppies than the person who decieds that the papers are enough and chooses just breeding 2 dogs that are registered to produce more..
The "pick" or best puppy in a poorly bred litter, frankly is still crap.. is of far less overall quality and may will not have the health/temeperment/personality of a "pet" puppy in a carefully research planned litter from a reputable hobby breeder.
It is important and vital for you to take some time, do your research and NOT settle for a poorly bred litter..Just because you may be looking for a companion or pet dog.. DOES not mean you should not expect that your companion dog came from the same carefully planned esearched litter at his/her Show potential littermates received.
A show quality pup should be sold with a contract that you will show title and health clear your dog.. it should not only carry a health warentee but a warentee that it will be free of any disqualifying faults..
Pet pups are the pups in the litter that just do not have 100% of what a breeder hoped for in a cross.. and altough make EXCELLENT companion pups.. should/cannot be bred or shown in breed shows.. and most reputable breeders will not sell these dogs with anything other than spay neuter contract..
A "pedigree" dog..is just that a dog with "papers" Nothing more.. no indication of quality or lack of quality… Just a pup/dog that has papers..

Add – in some countries the word pedigreed means purebred. And mutts are not pedigreed dogs because, apart from their dam (and maybe their sire) there is no registered record of their family tree. They are not purebred.
A show dog is a dog bred specifically to meet the conformation of the breed standard. And of course, these dogs will have a PEDIGREE so people can research the lineage. If a show dog is of excellent quality. people can then seek dogs with similar bloodlines.
